We are super excited at Radius to be hosting an Art Fuelled Fashion event with Koshka fashionista Kat Pengelly. The evening features a piping hot parade followed by a rocking dance party!
Kat has created a new collection called FASHION CANVAS that she will showcase alongside some new designer fleeces plus fun fashion statements from previous collections that are still kicking around her house.
FASHION CANVAS combines two of Kat’s creative interests; fashion and art. Kat trained as a fine-art painter at the University of Ballarat from 1993-1995. Even though her major was painting, her final year folio consisted predominantly of costumes and performance art. Kat went on to study at the Melbourne School of Fashion in 2009 to consolidate her skills in pattern making and sewing. Kat’s main practice, to this day, is left-field fashion theatre and wearable art.
The concept of FASHION CANVAS is ‘TAKING IT TO THE STREETS’. Many people have no interest or inclination to visit an art gallery. Applying original art to clothing that is worn in public places and spaces exposes people to art in a non-threatening and engaging way.
Kat has a studio in the Bridge Mall, Ballarat with painting and sewing studios adjacent to each other. FASHION CANVAS merges her creative expressions by experimenting with painting and drawing on fabric using a number of mediums such as paint, textas and oil pastels for fabric. She has created original, one off, art works by transferring images onto garments.
Audiences will also see a sneak previews of Kat’s Truck performance plus a showcase of the acclaimed Fashion for Funerals collections.
Orders may be taken on new items and one-off garments from previous collections may be bought.
