A Falling Leaf.
A story told by an old Manna Gum to his friend the Raven. It begins: There was once, not so long ago, a small, insignificant flower, so glowing with colour that on a night such as this, it would light up the moonless sky, almost touching the stars. And by day it seemed to equal the sun’s own splendor, except its light shone with the colour of a fairy wren’s chest, a bright, brilliant blue. All the animals, all the birds and insects, and all the lizards and snakes, would gather in this small flower’s glow, safe and assured that, for the time of their gathering, each would never harm any of the others. And to one such assembly two small children came... children that stood not even as tall as you Raven... miniature children, who had become lost… but they were children about to be found.
The First Cut, from our Big Book.
It was night and a Raven was talking to a Manna Gum. It was easy for the boy to understand them, and in his dream this was not in the least bit unusual. The Raven was saying, Dear friend could you please tell me another story. Both bird and tree were silent, and then slowly the Mana Gum began to tell the story of the First Cut,the first time the sound of a tree being chopped down is heard in the bush, and how all the animals, birds and insects, as well as trees and flowers are effected in their own ways. What will become of them all?
Between Earth
and Sky
The sky is blue.
Something flashes.
There is a blurring.
Things recede, but never quite disappear.
The child feels as if they are floating between earth and sky.
The red-tailed black cockatoo rises, and the familiar has become the unfamiliar.
The land is red.
A scrolling Cranky, a continuous painting of a journey through the Western deserts, it’s stories, land, creatures and magic.
